I enjoy teaching others to paint and draw! Teaching is challenging and socially rewarding – hey, beats small-talk at a party! These paintings are mostly my teaching demos. I always demonstrate when I teach my various courses. It keeps me in practice and it’s motivating and fun. I was inspired to teach by artist, Sam Black, who won the Governor General’s Medal for teaching. When I saw Sam demonstrate and explain concepts, I thought “Now, that’s worth doing!” During four years of art school I was never so inspired as when I saw Sam paint in a few short workshops after I graduated. He enjoyed moderate local notoriety as a painter, but as a teacher – superb! After 40 years I still remember every word he said. I wish he was still around so I could tell him that. “Thank you Sam Black! I owe you so much.”
